bio

OvO has always been one of the most active bands in the worldwide noisy rock scene. They have been known pretty much everywhere through more than 1000 gigs, their large amount of releases, including albums, singles, collaborations, tracks on compilations, dvds, and for their original, unique music. They’re a duo, formed by a little possessed singer and guitar player (Stefania Pedretti) and an enormous drummer who plays a mini-set like it was a full metal drum set. Their live performances are legendary, and they’ve played them all over the world, with extensive tours in Europe, North America, Mexico, Asia, including a lot of the main festivals.

What they do is not easy to file. It’s not noise, not metal, not doom, not punk, not rock and roll, even if there’s a little bit of all these. Certainly it’s not free nor avant nor improv. For once, we can really say that it’s a band you can’t file.

After some full lengths on their label Bar La Muerte, they release albums on American labels such as legendary Load records and Blossoming Noise, then two albums on Supernatural Cat and one on Dio Drone. With “Miasma” they started to be released by the Canadian label Artoffact, which will release this new one called “Ignoto” as well.

They collaborated or played with the most important names of contemporary experimental rock music, and they worked for cinema projects (Frankenstein, Nosferatu, Inferno) and performing arts (“Aeneis V” by Lenz, “Canto Primo” by Gruppo Nanou).

“IGNOTO” is a sludge vision, or nightmare, that plays on the border between life and death, starting from sci-fi insipration. But we all know that reality can be much worse.

Miasma album  2020

Italian noise-rock duo OvO has been at the center of the worldwide post-rock, industrial-sludge, and avant-doom scenes for nearly two decades. Their “always-on-tour” mentality, coupled with a DIY ethic, fearless vision, and pulverizing live shows have made them the Jucifer of Europe; impossible to categorize, but always there, appearing in your hometown, like a ghostly omnipresence. OvO’s fiercely independent ethos and grinding live schedule have earned the band a significant worldwide fanbase that have come to expect nothing but the most daring and innovative dark music presentations.

Based in Ravenna, Italy, OvO was formed in 2000 by Stefania Pedretti and Bruno Dorella, and to date have released nine full-lengths. Their latest, the 2016 DioDrone release Creatura saw acollades from the likes of Pitchfork, who compared Pedretti to Yoko Ono, and from Decibel Magazine, who called the band “a David Lynch dance party.” OvO has also been featured in The Quietus, Stereogum, Cvlt Nation, and many more forward-thinking web properties. The band has performed at festivals on nearly every continent, and have toured extensively, with the likes of Lighnting Bolt, Zu, and many others.

On the dawn of the project’s 20th anniversary, OvO is pleased to announce a new worldwide album deal with Toronto-based Artoffact Records, who will release the 9th OvO album, Miasma, in early 2020. A full tour will follow in Europe, including festival dates.
